One of the highlights in the South Coast sailing calendar is the Sussex Inlet and St Georges Basin Yacht Club Annual regatta the next, the Clubs 35th will be a three day event – Friday, January 31, Saturday February 1 and Sunday 2, 2025.
The regatta will again welcome local sailors as well as visitors from right around the state that traditionally join local club sailors for the popular two day regatta with an extra day of sailing and socialising.
Friday will comprise a morning sail if you’d like to check out the Basin (and need a practice😊) followed by the fave – barefoot bowls – possibly at the later time of 3pm, at the Sussex RSL Club as a warm up to the regatta on Saturday and Sunday.
The sailing program will remain unchanged from previous years – Saturday morning briefing at 11am, participants then heading out onto St Georges Basin for a Basin Chase passage race. An earlier start on Sunday, on the Basin for an outside triangle course, presentation at HQ following compilation of results.
The committee again encourages all skippers, crew and supporters back to HQ after Saturdays race for a couple of hours of R & R extending a welcome also to the visitors, their families and friends to enjoy some NSW South Coast hospitality.
The weather is great at this time of year, the kids are back at school and the majority of holiday makers returned home, leaving the brilliant waterways free for visitors of the sailing variety. Out of town crews can take advantage of a range of reasonably priced accommodation and the many community facilities available in Sussex, the shops and dining venues – and of course visit our Regatta sponsor and support businesses!
Attracting more boats and sailors, their families and friends is what the club is looking forward to again this year and in turn a good show of boats on shores of the Sussex Inlet waterways is sure to draw some attention to this great sport.
