Some stiff breeze for the 5 yachts that took to the water for race 1 of the Hybrid Series. A building noreaster saw a long tough work to the top mark and not too many spinnakers on the first run back. Southern Cross led the charge as they were first away as duty gate boat, followed by Gone Too Farr and then HooRoo, with Salty Tiger and Equinox (with new crew member Dave on board, who had a samll set back with a headsail shackle giving up the fight.
With the seaway buiding and plenty of white caps forming, it was another tough work to the top mark, and then the first three boats decided that it would be “quicker” to sail the angles rather than to follow sailing instructions and complete the “sausage leg” We believe them! HooRoo was not falling for that and made straight for the bottom mark, followed by Ken and crew on Equinox.
With the wind still building, Southern Cross was first back to the top, followed by Gone Too Farr, with HooRoo closing the gap and then a close finish between Salty Tiger and Equinox. Handicap results on the Results page for those interested.
Next race is Basin Chase Handicap Start 12pm 2nd December.
